Not much, and it is better to know that before you arrive. One hotel in town is listed by both the Chamber of Commerce and the map, the city runs camping for riders, and there is more choice in the towns along the highways.

Is there a hotel in California City?

One. The Chamber of Commerce lists a Best Western as the hotel in California City,1 and OpenStreetMap has it as Best Western California City Inn & Suites at 10386 California City Boulevard, the only named hotel mapped inside the city.2 For rooms, rates and availability, go to the operator.3

The chamber’s list includes other names we could not confirm are open to the public. This page names a business only when at least two independent sources show it exists; if you run somewhere to stay in town and are missing, get in touch.

Where can you camp or park an RV?

  • Borax Bill Park, run by the city’s OHV Department along Twenty Mule Team Parkway, has first-come camping, including free dry camping and six power-and-water hookups, which are charged.7 Fees, hours and rules are on camping in California City.
  • Sierra Trails RV Park is mapped at 21282 State Highway 14, near the highway’s junction with California City Boulevard,5 and describes itself as being in Mojave, two miles north of Highway 58, and advertises monthly spaces. Contact it directly.4
  • Red Rock Canyon State Park’s Ricardo Campground has 50 primitive first-come sites.9 See camping at Red Rock Canyon.
  • Your own lot: the city requires a temporary use permit to stay on property in a motor home.8 See camping on your own lot.

If there is no room in town, the nearest places with more choice are along the highways. OpenStreetMap maps around a dozen hotel and motel entries each in and around Mojave and Tehachapi, about 20 in Ridgecrest, more than 40 in Lancaster, and one in Boron.10 Those counts are rough, and they are not recommendations.

When a booking site lists hotels “in” or “near” California City, check the address against these distances before you book: a room in Lancaster is the better part of an hour away.11 Full road distances, including to Los Angeles, Bakersfield and Las Vegas, are in how far California City is from other towns.
